Reggae, steady, go: Harry dances up a storm in Jamaica

07 MARCH 2012

Quoting the country's national hero Bob Marley, Prince Harry told guests at a black tie gala in Jamaica "every little ting gonna be aright".

The cheeky comment, delivered in the lilting local patois, came at a black tie dinner with Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller.

Harry, representing the Queen, told the audience: "Her Majesty asked me to extend her good wishes to you all and is sorry she can't be here.

"So you're stuck with me... but don't worry "cause every little ting gonna be aright."

He went on:  "I would like to take this opportunity to pay a personal tribute to my grandmother. For me, as for millions of people around the world, her lifetime’s service to others is truly an inspiration.

"As for me, I haven't been here for long, but  wow  if I had, I'm not sure my grandmother would get me back!"

Among the diners chuckling at his jokes was one surprise guest. Nancy Dell' Olio, on holiday in the Caribbean, had secured an invite to the party hosted by the Governor-General, Sir Patrick Allen in King's House.

Earlier in the day, the Prince was seen getting his groove on to the reggae legend's music at a children's project in the capital Kingston.

Wearing a pair of eye-catching blue suede shoes, he showed natural rhythmn partnered by local resident, Chantol Dorner.

Harry was visiting the Rise Life project, which provides learning facilities for young people in deprived urban areas, and his impromptu dance session took place at a party in their courtyard.

Before boogying, the royal also met with children and staff and took part in a counselling session.
