Sunny welcome in Norway for Charles and Camilla

20 MARCH 2012

As the Queen reaffirmed her intention to dedicate herself to the service of the UK, her son Prince Charles and his wife Camilla touched down in Norway to start their Jubilee Tour of Scandinavia.

The couple were greeted by Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit after their plane landed at a sunny Gardermoen airport in Oslo.

They had originally been due to fly in to an airbase used by the Hercules which was involved in a crash in Sweden last week, killing five Norwegian Air Force officers. But the location was changed as a mark of respect.

Charles wrote privately written to King Harald to convey his sympathies over the tragedy and asked for his condolences to be passed on to the families of the victims.

Their eight-day tour of the region will also see the royal couple visit Norway's second-largest city, Bergen, before they travel on to Stockholm in Sweden, and then Copenhagen and Jutland in Denmark.

Camilla was wearing a dark grey Bruce Oldfield coat and dress and a navy blue Philip Treacy hat.

The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall were introduced to local dignitaries by the crown prince and princess before leaving for the royal palace for a private meeting with King Harald and Queen Sonja.

During their trip the British royals will show solidarity with survivors of the terrible massacre on the Norwegian island of Utoya.
