William and Kate trek on for exotic jungle visit

15 SEPTEMBER 2012

Legal action against the French magazine who published intimate photographs of the Duchess of Cambridge has not stopped the royal couple enjoying their Jubilee trip of a lifetime.

In the midst of their South East Asia tour, William and Kate showed their adventurous side on a visit to the Danum Valley rainforest in Borneo.

The Duke and Duchess travelled by Government helicopter to the valley, which is nearly 50 miles west of Lahad Datu on the island of Borneo.

Here they had the chance to meet Royal Society scientists and volunteers, and to experience some of the jungle for themselves.

Looking around in awe at their exotic surroundings, the duo chatted happily to each other and wandered the rainforest floor.

They also had the opportunity to be lifted up, 45 metres, into a tree to view the jungle canopy and to also enjoy a jungle walk, where, if they were lucky enough, the couple could have spotted the wild orang-utans and other animals that live in the Danum Valley.

Under the shelter of the forest canopy, the Queen's grandson was able to indulge a longstanding interest in conservation, and was joined by his wife for an explanation of centre's research as part of its quest to protect Borneo's rainforests.

After fully exploring the jungle and research station, the couple retired to a nearby lodge for a private lunch.
