Magic moments from William and Kate's headline-making tropical tour

It was the tour that was almost overshadowed by the row over the intimate pictures taken of the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William on holiday in France.

But like true professionals, the royal couple soldiered on during their nine-day visit of South East Asia, making it a resounding success.

Whether taking part in a welcome dance, chatting with the king and queen of Malaysia, visiting a mosque, or meeting crowds of excited well-wishers the couple threw themselves into activities whole heartedly.

And Kate was the epitome of elegance in a series of designer dresses, many of which were especially designed for the couple's trip.

At every turn the royal couple were greeted by throngs of excited well-wishers. On the second day of their tour school children chanted "Kate, you're great", meanwhile William told some youngsters he would like two children

Refusing wine and instead making a toast with water with the president of Singapore's wife Mary Tang, Kate sparked rumours she might be expecting

The Duchess won praise for her first speech on foreign soil, speaking confidently at Hospis Malaysia

There was a touching encounter at the hospice when Kate stole the heart of terminally ill little boy Zakwan Anuar, telling him he was "very brave" and "very handsome" and giving the 15-year-old a signed birthday card

Later, attending an official dinner wearing a bespoke Alexander McQueen dress, Kate addmitted to the queen of Malaysia she had been nervous about her speech, and was "glad to get it over with"

Kate's demure appearance during her first ever visit to a mosque in Abu Dhabi drew comparisons with Princess Diana. William's mum chose a similar outfit during a trip to a mosque in Egypt in 1992

Chanting warriors, elaborate body art and a sea of spears awaited the couple as they arrived in the Solomon Islands

Wearing bright colours and big smiles the Duke and Duchess looked to be having a wonderful time in the South Pacific

The couple energetically took part in a traditional Fatele welcome dance after their arrival on the South pacific island of Tuvalu. Meanwhile 9,000 miles away French judges ruled in their favour at a hearing about the pictures of Kate

Even if Kate wanted to forget about the holiday pictures, there were reminders at every turn during their time in the South Pacific. The couple encountered several groups of bare-chested women, but the pretty brunette kept smiling throughout

Their unforgettable VIP treatment involved being rowed in a beautifully-decorated traditional war canoe by grass-skirted tribesmen to the remote South Pacific island resort of Tavanipupu
